Ingredients:
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
1/4 cup water (adjust for desired consistency)
Instructions:
Prepare Ingredients: Gather all the ingredients and ensure they are measured out for easy addition.
Heat Olive Oil: In a medium-sized saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Sauté Garlic: Add the minced garlic to the olive oil and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Add Tomato Products: Stir in the tomato sauce and tomato paste until well combined.
Add Herbs and Spices: Add the oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, onion powder, salt, sugar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.
Simmer: Add the water to the saucepan and stir. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat. Once it starts to simmer, reduce the heat to low.
Cook: Let the sauce simmer on low for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together. Adjust the consistency with more water if needed.
Taste and Adjust: Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as necessary. If it's too acidic, you can add a bit more sugar. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
Cool and Store: Allow the sauce to cool before using it on your pizza. You can store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
